TenCate is proud to introduce TenCate Cetex® MC1322, a PEKK-based bulk molding compound (BMC) delivering superior elevated service performance, good hot/wet strength, and resistance to flammability. Developed for commercial aircraft applications, this new BMC is ideal for fabricating complex part shapes (e.g., clips and brackets) currently made from aluminum. Replacing metallic assemblies with lightweight chopped fiber compression molded BMC parts can reduce weight by more than 40% over aluminum parts, with the added benefit of higher tensile strengths.
Additionally, thermoplastic chopped fiber BMCs can be molded in rapid part fabrication cycles in minutes, allowing for high volume part fabrication. The TenCate TC380 technical paper presented at the Seattle SAMPE conference in May 2017 introduced a new toughening technology delivered in a high performance, low moisture uptake epoxy resin. The result is a state of the art high compression after impact (CAI) system, which maintains exceptional open hole compression (OHC) strength for the next generation of aerostructure applications.
TenCate TC380 features a 30-day tool life and is out of autoclave/vacuum pressure processable, allowing use on large composite structures. Compression after impact strength of 42 ksi (290 MPa) and open hole compression strength of 45 ksi (310 MPa) make this the ideal system for aerostructures, launch vehicles, and secondary flight control structure.
A&P Technology’s Mike Braley co-presented a joint technical paper with TenCate Advanced Composites at SAMPE Seattle highlighting the unique properties of QISO™ tri-axial fabric compared to traditional woven fabrics such as plain weave and 2x2 twill weave styles.
The unique fabric architecture of QISO™ with TenCate's TC275-1 epoxy resin system delivers higher mechanical strengths over traditional woven fabrics. And the unique 0º/±60 degree balanced architecture of the QISO™ fabric allows easy ply stack ups without the scrap loss from cutting off angle ±45º plies. Simplified lay up, reduced waste from ply orientation, and improved damage tolerance together make this product form a winning combination.

A graduate of California Polytechnic University with a degree in mechanical engineering, Barry Meyers is the Vice President of Technical Service for the Morgan Hill and Fairfield, California, locations. Prior to joining TenCate in 1997, he worked for Lockheed Martin in M&P Engineering for spacecraft and special projects, and has had roles in engineering, design, and consulting with an Air Force contractor.
Barry and his team of ten engineers and seven technicians at TenCate are proud to provide high levels of service to customers and sales personnel for material property characterization (qualifications) and application support. Barry is involved in CMH-17 committee work and several high profile materials/application development projects.
With his wife MaryAnn of 27 years, Barry has two daughters, Julie and Emily, both students at University of California, Davis, excelling in engineering and biological sciences respectively. Together with his family he enjoys outdoor sports, including snow skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and water sports. Barry is an avid adrenaline-seeking mountain biker, wake boarder, and triathlete, having competed in triathlons every year since 1984.

Holding the first degree in Materials Engineering and a Masters degree in Materials Research Techniques from Queen Mary, University of London, Claire Baker is the Space and Communications Segment Manager -EMEA. Before joining our team, she worked as an engineer with hands-on development of composite parts, researching new materials, managing testing and qualification programs, and shop floor trouble-shooting, first at GKN, then at Airbus (satellites) before joining Meggitt.
Claire took her first role in the commercial world in 2007, managing sales of Mitsubishi’s DIALEAD fiber in Europe for Sumitomo Corporation, a Japanese trading company. During her more than five-year tenure there, she helped Sumitomo open the composites industry across Europe. Her success was precipitated by her skill at working with international business cultures, her special knowledge of investments, and her ability to join the Japanese way of working with London’s city culture. From there, Claire worked for Chinese start-up Hengshen before joining TenCate in 2013.
From 2013 to 2017, Claire was responsible for sales of TenCate’s advanced composite materials to the aerospace sector in the UK. Claire recently moved into the newly created role of segment manager. She leads the EMEA team’s activity in tracking, and understanding the markets and customers for space and communications, forming the link between future market needs and TenCate’s product management teams.
Claire is an energetic, curious, and active individual who likes to eat well, stay fit, read, sing, write songs, play piano, stand up paddle-board, bike on and off road, and enjoy Parkrun. She is also a member of Portsmouth Triathletes Club and has an identical twin sister in New Zealand.

More than 28 attendees from 10 companies recently completed our 2017 AmberTool® Tooling Academy. All participants experienced a hands-on composite tool build, and more than eight hours of detailed classroom instruction.
In addition to practical experience and personalized direction, participants received a full set of presentations and participated in a facility tour to better understand how our prepregs are made.

TenCate received the Jumpstart Award in July from Cirrus Aircraft. Jumpstart is a special program offered by Cirrus Aircraft to support and train new pilots by giving them a comprehensive introduction to general aviation by learning to fly in a Cirrus aircraft. The program is a unique collaboration between Cirrus and their largest vendor suppliers.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA) awarded TenCate Advanced Composites with their 2016 Supplier Excellence Award. Received in September, this award is based upon 98% on-time delivery and quality. This is TenCate's fifth consecutive award, and we are proud to be a supplier to GA's platforms.
